English and Urdu Women’s Studies Readers.
To strengthen Women’s Studies Departments in colleges and schools and address the gap of information access by providing easy to access basic reading material to students and faculty.
These books will be based on different schools of feminist thought with an emphasis on Third World Feminism. Developments in feminist thought will be historically located at different stages in the women’s movements globally and locally in Pakistan. This chronology will be historically located within the wider context of social and political events, such as the French Revolution of 1789; the publication of Thomas Paine’s ‘The Right of Man’ and Mary Wolstonecraft’s ‘Vindication of the Rights of Woman’ and the rise of Liberal Feminism in England/Europe/USA; the 1919 Russian Revolution and the emergence of Marxist and Socialist Feminisms; India’s struggle against colonial rule and Indian women’s fight for universal franchise etc. including the impact feminist theory on literary theory and social sciences.
Given the paucity of available reading material and particularly student’s low access to feminist literature, this book will provide feminist concepts and related material in easy to access English and Urdu as to maximize the negative impact of student’s lack of language skills, particularly in English.
